Who we are
Our website address is: https://unrealtutorials.com and is maintained by Ben Ormstad.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Do know that we never collect any personal data we don’t intend to use – and with the exception of statistics collected by Google Analytics and AdSense, the only data we get is when you first initiate contact, either by commenting on our content, signing up to our newsletter og sending us an email.
We never simply store data just to store it. Also, please don’t send us any personal information unless it’s absolutely crucial in order for us to help you with a problem (for example when contacting us to get help solving a game development-related problem, and such).
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments more easily, and to keep your information visible on your comment.
In the case you email us, we will have your information – as it is included in your email – until you ask us to delete it. We keep it in order to keep the conversation thread open for further assistance at a later time.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
If you want to see what information we have on you, want to change or delete it, then contact me @
Where we send your data
Visitor comments are checked through an on-site automated spam detection function. Data collected when you comment on site content is saved in the site’s database and sent as a notification email to us, letting us approve or disapprove your comment. This information isn’t shared with anyone.
UnrealTutorials’ Newsletter
If you choose to opt in to UnrealTutorials’ newsletter, we will use your email address to be in touch with you and to provide updates on new tutorials and other game dev-related stuff. We use MailChimp as our marketing automation platform. By clicking below to submit this form, you acknowledge that the information you provide will be transferred to MailChimp for processing in accordance with their Privacy Policy and Terms.
Cookies
We do use cookies to store information, such as your personal preferences when you visit our site – most notably the cookie consent and newsletter popups.
We use third party advertisements (Google Analytics) to support our site, which uses technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP , the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to someone who frequents cooking sites).
You can chose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
The embedded content you will mainly find on this site is videos from our YouTube channel.
Google Analytics & Google AdSense
Who we share your data with / Third parties we receive data from
Statistics on page views, user locations, technology used to browse and time/date are collected by Google Analytics and Google AdSense in order for us to be able to get statistical reports on what content performs well, user interactions with the site and its different pages, and being able to let Google display ads that are relevant to you (unless you have specifically disabled this function in your own Google account). We also track which outbound links our visitors click – again, to know what content performs well, so we can provide more content which our users enjoy. (You find Google’s Privacy Policy here.)
Yet, do know your IP address is anonymized for analytics, in order to protect your specific location to be gleaned from the data.
What data breach procedures we have in place
We have website security in place to prevent spammers, hackers and other individuals with no good intentions from creating users, etc.
Do know that if you attempt to illegally log in, i.e. hack our site, we will collect and store your IP address in order to ban it from our site.
